Hi, I'm testing hammerdb on SQL server using some SDS (Software Define Storage). I'm doing some resiliency tests for the SDS while running hammerdb (like pullint out a drive or shutting down a node). These actions should create some kind of a period of time where IOs can not complete (for example, if the SDS lost a node, it has to update its metadata so all clients will know where to get another copy of the data), so I'm pretty sure some queries failed or maybe were retried (not that much of an expert...

Vikram, Yes this is expected. The best way to think of the default Master/Slave mode is with Oracle RAC. One database with multiple instances - so the Master does the timing and the Slaves run against their target instances. It is not configured for the Master to gather all the Slave results. (However this is a good suggestion for a future enhancement). If you have done the Mater Distribution you need to check the script for the line: set mode "Local" ;# HammerDB operational mode If you have distributed...

Hi, HammerDB has moved here and will get a quicker response as it has more visibility https://github.com/TPC-Council/HammerDB. But to give a quick answer -what you are doing is very typical. By default the Oracle environment for Master/Slave is more focused to RAC so only the Master retrieves results - however if you want all of the Slaves to report in the EDITABLE OPTIONS section set "mode" to "Local" and then it will also run the monitor virtual user to time the test and capture results. Hi, HammerDB support has moved to Github Issues - however clearly there is a strong preference for the sourceforge support forum instead of GitHub and to provide a quick response I will answer this here. So yes the change in TPM is intentional for SQL Server from 3.2 to 3.3. As background there was a bug raised for the previous ODBC v1 interface tclodbc https://github.com/TPC-Council/HammerDB/issues/72 - the fix to this was to move to a newer ODBCv3 interface tdbc::odbc. The previous interface essentially...

Hi, We are seeing different performance numbers when the user has db_owner vs when the user is the owner of the database. This seems to be specific to hammerdb load. We are seeing ~35 - 40% performance drop. Does this have to do with hammerdb? Is this expected? Looks like it is taking more time to process each wait event when the user has db_owner privs. This is reproducable. I created 50 warehouses with 160 vusers. Thanks.

Hi, For tuning it is best that you go to the sites for the relevant database experts. For example this is a very good link for Db2 https://datageek.blog/about/. Also the HammerDB blog can give you some recent examples for PostgreSQL - nevertheless there is not going to be an absolute configuration that is suitable for every different environment, instead think of HammerDB as a tool to find this configuration for your particular setup. The refresh function will only work once per schema creation so make sure that if you want to use the refresh you backup and restore the tables being refreshed each also. Also make sure that you set the scale factor in the driver script to the same value as the schema build.

I am seeing different values reported by HammerDB results in virtual user output(5.5M) but the Tx counter reports a different TPM (3.3M). The delta between the two values is huge. I also veriffied the counter batch requests/sec from SQL Statistics in Perfmon, it matches the value of the Tx counter. In this case what is the correct TPM for my test? Thank you

  • Steve Shaw Steve Shaw posted a comment on discussion Help

My suggestion would be to run the test for an hour and then try running the query (and other queries) manually at the same time or near to the same time as HammerDB to see if it completes. It is possible that for example the connection is hanging for internal/admin overhead related to database space and then timesout. There is an example of some of the connection configuration parameters here https://www.hammerdb.com/docs/ch04s02.html Steve

  • Pete Pete posted a comment on discussion Help

Thanks for your response. I changed the test duration from 60 minutes to 15 minutes, and the test completed successfully. Prior to that, I ran the SELECT query as the tpcc user, and it returned results. Does this give you any clues as to what's happening? I didn't see anything in the error logs that indicated why the server closed the connection. Meanwhile, I will try a 60 minute test and update this thread with the results.

  • Steve Shaw Steve Shaw posted a comment on discussion Help

To troubleshoot - HammerDB is running the following SQL. Therefore you will need to login with the same account and run this SQL to see if it returns the correct data: select sum(xact_commit + xact_rollback) from pg_stat_database Also try running for a shorter timescale just to test. At the same time check the error logs as the message does say that the server closed the connection, therefore the question is why it would do this while running this statement. Steve

I see the Monitor user output count up to the time limit, then display "Test complete, Taking end Transaction Count", but the actual counts don't show up. The lower pane reads "Error in Virtual User 1: server closed the connection unexpectedly. This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request", and Virtual User 1 shows red X status. I have verified...

I have run a check with HammerDB 3.2 against Db2 11.1.2.2 (Database server = DB2/NT64 11.1.2.2) - this is on Windows (because I'm happening to be working on SQL Server at the moment) - and its a 1 warehouse database for a quick check so ignore the performance however the result I get is: Vuser 1:2 Active Virtual Users configured Vuser 1:TEST RESULT : System achieved 49338 Db2 TPM at 11196 NOPM and querying the table gives me the following: ... 1 160480 1 record(s) selected. db2 => select total_app_commits...

Hi, Many thanks for the update - so we now know why HammerDB reports 0 TPM because the values are not changing in sysibmadm.mon_db_summary. I will need to look into this to see if it is a configuration issue or whether something has changed between IBM releases. It does not look like a permission issue as you can select from it. Many thanks, Steve

Thank you Steve. I ran the command multiple times the value is same 25 in every time. The value is not increasing , not sure why DB2 is not the increasing the values eventhough I ran the mulitple times. Please let me know if anything need to test and I attached the scripts in my last post. Advance thanks.

Hi, For the driver scripts with and without output the "test" script prints its output to the screen, this is intended as a test to make sure that the schema is created ok and everything is working as expected rather than a measured test. The issue is that printing output requires printing to the screen and this can only be handled by one thread (by the OS) and is therefore a bottleneck. The timed tests are the ones for measuring. So the next test is to run this command: $ db2 "select total_app_commits...

You need to provide more details and the versions and OS you are using. HammerDB runs the following SQL Statement to capture the TPM: "select total_app_commits + total_app_rollbacks from sysibmadm.mon_db_summary" So log in as the user you are running HammerDB under and see if you can run the SQL statement, this will determine if there are for example permission or version issues that prevent you querying this table.
