I have been in contact with Yaesu, and they apparently refuse to provide any details on the hardware and software protocols required to interface with the FT-8900R for programming the memories via computer. I have bought my last Yaesu radio, ever! (Unless they immediately change their mind, and provide the requested information). I believe that when I buy a piece of hardware, I have also implicitly purchased complete details and information required to properly interface with that hardware. For the FT-8900R, that would include the computer interface to program the more than 800 memories. I have no problem with companies keeping trade secrets---in hardware or firmware. But it is completely unacceptable to sell me hardware and then refuse to tell me how to properly use that hardware. I asked for interface information, not trade secrets. Refusing to provide the information on how to program the memories via computer is no different in principle from refusing to provide information required to operate the radio through the front panel. This is absolutely unacceptable. I will never again spend money on any Yaesu products, and I likewise advise you to boycott Yaesu/Vertex/Standard until they change their policies.
