[Hamlib-developer] Question about a native hamlib protocol?

I am working on a project that I hope to add rigctl support to. (As in
buidling a homebrew radio) Is there a 'native' / generic rigctl protocol
that I van implement as its cat interface or should I just pretent to be an
existing radio?
