you must be compiling the hamlib-1.1.3 with some kind of recent gcc-3.x

Sure, try either one of the following solutions:
* compile using gcc-2.95.x
* disable C++ by passing "--without-cxx-binding" to configure script
* or try latest snapshot from http://hamlib.org/bleeding-edge/

BTW, hamlib-1.1.4, which won't suffer these problems, should come out
in a matter of weeks.
