I've been programming for thirty years in various languages. I can read 
C/C++, but writing it makes my head hurt. :-)

Indeed...this is the first prolonged period of unemployment in my 
career; I've been out of work since last May... .

..so releasing my first open source project at this point leaves me 
feeling, in Tom Lerher's famous words "like a Christian Scientist with 
appendicitis". :-)
