Might be getting ahead of ourselves a bit.  OpenVPN?  Sounds rather 
specific for network links at this early stage.  And it might be 
overkill for 99% of installations.  For the other 1%, an add-on WAN 
security module might be better, even if that uses OpenVPN in the 
background.

Some form of encryption may be warranted, but the effect of that on 
latency, especially on lower powered platforms might need to be considered.

More a flagging it as a "To be considered"/"To be investigated", and not 
being technoiogy specific at this early stage.
