Well, I had trouble last week, but my tools were outdated. Be sure your
automake and autoconf are newer than the listed versions in
README.betatester. Now, whether that is the cause of static libs, I'm
not sure. I've compiled the CVS Hamlib several times in the past few
days and have gotten shared libs each time along with the static libs.

I've been building from anonymous CVS, not the copy I check out with my
SF userid. So you might try a new copy from anonymous CVS.

Is anyone else having problems compiling the latest CVS and getting share= d libraries? My build insists on creating only static libraries. Going ba= ck to 1.1.3 works fine. =20 It's been some months since I last played with hamlib and I want to get=20 caught up and add in some of my Ten-Tec Pegasus changes but right now I can't even get the compile back to where it was. What did I do wrong? If you cloned ft847.c, you might have to modify/rewrite your own get_freq_and_mode. You've done the harder part. Once your code is committed, we should be able to help you. Surely, it's going to make it for the arrlss! 73 Stephane |

Well, at least rigctl is talking to the radio, although the returned
data seems to be different enough from other Yaesu models that rigctl is
confused. Here's an example:

follows:
Byte 1 Band data (undocumented, but seems to start at 06 for
160m, 09 for 75m, and 09 for 40m.)
Bytes 2 - 5 Operating frequency in hex. in the first 14 byte

My terrible looking ft920.c and .h will be committed shortly. All
corrections welcome.

P.S. The good news for me as that after mucking around the code
compiles, the software at least can send a simple command to the radio
and get a reply it doesn't yet understand, and the radio hasn't locked
up. What did I do wrong?

It appears Debian Testing is a bit old: Autoconf version 2.13 automake (GNU automake) 1.4-p6 I see that additional automake versions are available, namely 1.5 and 1.6. I'll give 1.5 a try since it seems to satsify several dependencies. I had both autoconf 2.54 and 2.13 installed. 2.13 is heading to the bit bucket! I now have automake 1.5.3 and autoconf 2.54 as defaults, so I shall try again. This should be a lesson for me to RTFM and test my own system first. Sigh... I just finished building and installing the latest CVS, so it does work. The problem was between the chair and the keyboard on my end! 73, de Nate >> -- Wireless | Amateur Radio Station N0NB | "We have awakened a Internet | n0...@ne... | sleeping giant and Location | Bremen, Kansas USA EM19ov | have instilled in him Amateur radio exams; ham radio; Linux info @ | a terrible resolve". http://www.qsl.net/n0nb/ | - Admiral Yamomoto |

If you have any doubts on your cvs checkout, you may try the cvs snapshot at http://hamlib.org/bleeding-edge/ which comes ready for ./configure && make BTW, what are your autoconf/automake versions (--version) ? Make sure it's at least 2.50 for autoconf, and 1.5 for automake. Debian supports different versions, and try to autodetect. Hi all.
I'm tinkering with Hamlib a bit as I'm also tinkering with the TLF
logging program. I'm having trouble getting register.c to compile.
Here is the output:
register.c: In function `rig_load_backend':
register.c:297: `HAMLIB_MODULE_DIR' undeclared (first use in this
function)
register.c:297: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once
register.c:297: for each function it appears in.)
make[1]: *** [register.lo] Error 1
Okay, so I locate the appriate line in src/register.c:
lt_dladdsearchdir(HAMLIB_MODULE_DIR);
Okay, nothing spectacular there so I did a grep for HAMLIB_MODULE_DIR
and find it is defined in src/Makefile at line 112:
libhamlib_la_CFLAGS = -DIN_HAMLIB $(AM_CFLAGS)
-DHAMLIB_MODULE_DIR=\"$(libdir)\"
Looking through the gcc man page I see that HAMLIB_MODULE_DIR is being
defined as a macro with the value of /usr/local/lib yet I am unclear as
to just how this makes it onto the gcc command line as the one in my
rxvt makes no sense!
I've built the configuration per the directions in README.betatester and
README.developer as I'd like to try and add my FT-920 to Hamlib. But I
first wanted to be sure that things build before mucking around.

Most of the time, the problem lay with autoconf/automake versions. To make it easier for testing, I'll make available for download some previews of CVS snapshots. The first one is at: http://hamlib.org/bleeding-edge/hamlib-1.1.4-cvs-021021.tar.gz The numbers are the date (YYMMDD) of the CVS snapshot. These previews are solely for testing. Please do not distribute them. They won't be supported like official versions, only in the form of fixes in the cvs repository. Also keep in mind files in http://hamlib.org/bleeding-edge/ can come and go. I hope to hear soon reports for plenty of rigs! Cheers, Stephane |

I noticed that you need maintainers/testers/etc. for ts-570dg hamlib; I
would like to try it out, but have yet to get it setup and running. I
use mandrake 8.2; I'm not a programmer, but would be happy to assist
where I can. I would like to get linux computer control established for
my radio -- could be a win-win, if there is something I could do to help
the project. My ts-570dg does have a section intended to provide

First thing I did actually is have a look at rigmatrix. But the produced table is kindof mind-boggling. So many information is difficult to make sense of... So I decided to stick with the 'hand-written' table for the time being. But I guess it will be difficult to keep track of all the supported equipment, so: Yes, it would be a good idea to automatically produce support.html > > Talking about the 'FAQ page', that's an excellent idea. > One good question is what are the most FAQ!! - Is my rig supported ? (rigctl --list) - Introduction to rigctl and how to test a rig for basic functionality. - How do I write software with hamlib with an in-depth example from the tests directory - Anything else? It will be easy to write the FAQ in html (or sgml) and have a plain text 'FAQ' file included inside the hamlib tree. > I was also almost about to rewrite README.betatester and > README.developer in DocBook. Should we also include a screenshot of rigctl ? :) BTW, ktrack will be soon in the list. > 'Supported rotators' and a 'FAQ page' is in the pipeline. Good idea for the rotators. I have in the idea to rewrite rigmatrix in perl (with the new bindings). In the support.html, there will be a pointer per backend to a page containing the list of supported rig models. Each rig model will point to the .txt file of dump_caps. This way, support.html will be semi-automated. That'll be good also to have a support.html per Hamlib version. Talking about the 'FAQ page', that's an excellent idea. One good question is what are the most FAQ!! I was also almost about to rewrite README.betatester and README.developer in DocBook. There's already some stuff in doc/sgml Cheers, Stephane |

I have added a screenshots page to http://hamlib.sourceforge.net/ (grig, xlog and tlf) and update most of the pages. 'Supported rotators' and a 'FAQ page' is in the pipeline. If you feel any of the pages needs additions, let me know. Regards, Joop PA4TU |

With me, or with the code? nope, with the code, just comment out the 'PKG_CHECK_MODULES(GNURADIO, gnuradio >= 0.5)' line in configure.ac. I'll have to turn this to some PKG_CHECK_OPT_MODULE or alike. Cheers Stephane |

Hi Joop! On Sun, Oct 06, 2002, Joop Stakenborg wrote: > Got some time this week, might it be a good idea to do a bit > of work on the hamlib web-pages? They seem a little outdated to > me... (see News and Download pages). Looks like vacations took an end, and you need something to chew on :) Well, you're right, the web pages are a bit outdated. Anyway, Nate did an excellent job with wsmake to make it easy to maintain yet effective web site. I've bounced you the wsmake archive. The .deb is available at http://sf.net/projects/wsmake The web site is accessed through scp: << "Using the scp client on your machine you may upload content to your project web space by using the following path as your destination: use...@sh...:/home/groups/h/ha/hamlib/htdocs remember: first line showed in news only! >> There's also a 'html.hamlib' cvs module, but it isn't up to date. Maybe the archive I pushed you would a good candidate to populate it. Let me know if you need any kind of help or explanations (as long as I can answer them of course :) Anyway, thanks for volunteering! Cheers, Stephane |
