In our next rule-set to be playtested, our encumberhance is halved, Skills are giving the same bonus as Abilities, and the 1D6 staying basically the same. I am wondering what PPV scale we should use for abilities. Remember that if each ability level up to ability level 4 only costs 1 PPV, then ability bonus with skill of 8 is only 8 PPV (4 skill + 4 general ability = 8, as in more than 6!!) What if we use the old ability scale instead?
8 costs 16 PPV on the old ability scale. Also, 16 PPV gets you exactly 6 hit points (5 +1), which is interesting and about right (since 8 PPV gets you 5 hit points.)
If we want to make it easier to advance, what we need to "even out" is the higher ability levels, not the lower ones! So we could say that after ability level 5, it only takes 16 PPV to get to each new ability level. So:
This is probably way to big of a topic for a single thread!

The old ability scale:
Level ~ PPV
~
1 ~ 1
1 ~ 1
2 ~ 2
2 ~ 3
3 ~ 4
3 ~ 6
4 ~ 8
4 ~ 12
5 ~ 16
5 ~ 24

Level ~ PPV
5.0 ~ 16
5.5 ~ 24
6.0 ~ 32
6.5 ~ 40
7.0 ~ 48
7.5 ~ 56
8.0 ~ 64
8.5 ~ 72
9.0 ~ 80
9.5 ~ 88
Here's what I suggest for the new Sharpness PPV, which we agree needs to be drastically increased:
Sharpness ~ PPV
-5 ~ 0
-4 ~ 1
-3 ~ 2
-2 ~ 4
-1 ~ 8
0 ~ 16
+1 ~ 32
+2 ~ 64
+3 ~ 128
This would make "razor sharp" about 0, at 16 PPV.
