Are we bringing back "Occupations"? Last time we tried it, there was no such thing as Equipment PPV, so it should work much better now.
The basic idea used to be that a Occupation required a certain minimum combination of abilities, and that if those requirements were met, then the character could get a certain combination of beginning equipment (So occupation requires ceratain ability levels and gives you starting equipment.)
We could just do it like this: Occupation total PPV requirements in ability = total PPV in starting equipment. (Perhaps instead double required ability PPV in starting equipment PPV?)

Perhaps there should be difference between the Occupation a character has, and the occupations the character has had. Perhaps "Background" should be the feild that list the characters former occupations, that his beginning equipment comes from. (There would of course be some ability requirement for having a past occupation, though perhaps it would be less (like -1 ability level)?)
His current Occupation on the other hand, in addition to adding to his beginning equipment, can replace the equipment from that occupation if lost (as long as he maintains that occupation.)

I remember using the old occupational system. I agree that it can work now because we have equipment PPV. I like the sound of the proposed methods of applying these concepts.
Maybe each occupation should have specific limitations for the kind of equipment they may have, such as an equipment list.

What exactly is the function of Background and Occupation anyhow?
