Simplified Stride

    The road runner gets up to two feet long and can run 17 Miles Per hour:
    http://www.desertusa.com/mag98/sep/papr/road.html

    The cheetah is 1.1-1.6 meters and weighs 45-65 Kilograms on average, and can go over 60 MPH according to:
    http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/agarman/bco/cheetah.htm

    Yet Size is not directly proportional to speed:
    http://educ.queensu.ca/~fmc/may2003/RunRunSoln.html

    And infact, the animal with the longest reach I can think of, the Giraffe, can only go 35 Miles per hour:

    Could we make stride be dependent on ability alone?
    Well, the way my math works out is cheetahs are moving at about 60 meters per round.  Now, if we assume they had ability level 10 with 6 HP, then we could say that running ability IS stride.  The problem is that ability level 5&1/2 puts you instantly running at about 30-40 miles per hour.

    Seth once proposed we make running speed based off of strictly race and hit points.  Chuck is proposing we research a simplified stride system. We could have stride be an expensive (PPV wise) racially dependent trait, that individual characters can only enhance by getting more hit points.  IF WE DID THIS, WE COULD HAVE EVERY CHARACTER'S STRIDE AUTOMATICALLY ROUNDED TO THE NEAREST HALF METER!!

    1/2 meter stride = -20 PPV
    1 Meter Stride = -15 PPV
    1 1/2 Meter = -10 PPV
    2 Meter = -5 PPV
    2 1/2 = 0 PPV
    3 = 5 PPV
    3 1/2 = 10 PPV
    4 = 15 PPV
    4 1/2 = 20
    5 = 25 PPV
    5 1/2 = 30 PPV
    6 = 35
    6 1/2 = 40
    7 = 45
    7 1/2 = 50
    8 = 55
    8 1/2 = 60
    9 = 65
    9 1/2 = 70
    10 = 75

    Now according to:
    http://www.athletix.org/biogreene.html
    A human can cover 100 meters in 9.8 seconds, or in other words about 20 meters in a round, assuming a pretty high hit point level. If we assume this was an extremely gifted athlete who was at his prime and had the maximum amount of training and specialization in this field, then you could say he had 8 hit points, and there fore humans have a racial stride of 2&1/2 (conveniently listed here as PPV 0.)

      And if we assume the maximum human HP is more like 7, then we could say that the human stride is 3 meters.  In fact, we could do this by the whole meter instead of the half meter!

      Meters Per Hit Point = PPV

      1 = -10
      2 = -5
      3 = 0
      4 = 5
      5 = 10
      6 = 15
      7 = 20
      8 = 25
      9 = 30

      And that would make the fastest running speeds the same PPV as the slower flying speeds.

      This is definitely what I would like to have considered for playtesting.  All characters strides in terms of whole meters, now that's simplified!!

        We discussed it in detail, and this is the conclusion we (BFGalbraith and CFGalbraith) have come to:

        Running ability should still be able to increase stride: +1/2 meter every 4 ability levels

        Here's the Race PPV scale for stride that we recomend:
        Stride (meters) ~ PPV
        0.5 ~ 0
        1.0 ~ 5
        1.5 ~ 7.5
        2.0 ~ 10
        2.5 ~ 12.5
        3.0 ~ 15
        3.5 ~ 17.5
        4.0 ~ 20
        4.5 ~ 22.5
        5.0 ~ 25
        5.5 ~ 27.5
        6.0 ~ 30
        6.5 ~ 32.5
        7.0 ~ 35
        7.5 ~ 37.5
        8.0 ~ 40

        From our calculations, Humans have a natural stride of 1.5, and Mr. Greene would have 7 hit points and a running ability level of 8 (giving him a total stride of 2.5).

        Again, we don't recomend this as an optional simple rule, but as a replacement for the current stride rules.

          This is true.  I think it is a very well thought out and solid idea.  We will be playtesting it very soon.
