I've made some changes recently to allow GXMame to support SDLMAME, now that X-Mame appears to be discontinued. A number of other changes have been made as well to fix other bugs as well as add support for more recent command line options.
These changes are all in CVS, since I don't have project permissions to make a new release.
Note that I haven't incorporated the 0.40 branch (yet), since this also appears to be discontinued.
