Please consider writing and installing an AppData file with the application description and some screenshots, else Guido Van Robot looks really bad in the GNOME and KDE Software Centers. We'd love to showcase more applications, but without the extra data file we can't. See http://people.freedesktop.org/~hughsient/appdata/ for details; thanks!
Richard
According to the info one has to provide info which is located in /usr/share/appdata.
When I look at that location on a Ubuntu 13.04 release I see only two apps that have provided info.
So I think it's not really catching on and I will wait to see what's happens with this new? initiative.
These are the stats for Fedoro 21:
Applications with AppData: 214/1101 (19.4%)
Applications with keywords: 104/1101 (9.4%)
Applications with screenshots: 190/1101 (17.3%)
Applications in GNOME with AppData: 81/110 (73.6%)
Applications in KDE with AppData: 4/64 (6.2%)
Applications in XFCE with AppData: 0/20 (0.0%)

Please consider improving and installing this AppData file we wrote: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/hughsie/fedora-appstream/master/appdata-extra/desktop/gvrng.appdata.xml
38% of all the applications in Fedora 22 ship AppData files now. They're being consumed by Fedora, Suse, Debian and soon to be Arch too.
You should contact the various distro maintainers.
I'm the author of this package not one of the distro maintainers.
This file belongs upstream, it makes no sense to have to write it 20 times, once for each distro. Usually the distro packager doesn't keep the file up to date, and certainly won't translate it. It's up to you if you accept the file, but I would have thought more users is what you want. Starting next year, applications without AppData files won't be shown in the software center at all.
Ok
