I like GVolWheel since it does the job (I'm in Openbox+fbpanel)! It also has a nice-looking icon and you can choose external mixer program for more adjustment. The only thing I found annoying is that it does not "dynamically" show the real volume when you change the volume by other ways, i.e., by amixer from command line. Otherwise it is a perfect lightweight applet for Openbox.
