[Gusdev-gusdev] Plugin memory leak w/ Perl 5.8

GUS users-

it looks like we are seeing a memory leak in the plugins that coincided 
with our change to Perl 5.8 from 5.6.

it is likely you will have trouble running plugins under Perl 5.8.

we're looking into it now and will keep you posted.
