userName from gus.properties corresponds to the login attribute of 
core.userinfo.

i know this is confusing (we have known about this but didn't get to 
fixing it)

i think that we should consider renaming the property in .gus.property to:
  userLogin=sfischer

the databaseLogin is something like this:
  databaseLogin=GUSrw

meanwhile, i plan on improving the error message ga puts out in this 
case so that it won't be hard to figure out what is going on.
