[GUSDEV] GUS

Hello,


We have a small problem.  The GUS database is still working, but gus_home is 
no longer available.
I tried doing a "build"  with the flag append, but it's failing.  What is 
the best way to re-make gus_home?

I would like to have a link to the GUS home page, if one exists.

I can find lots of links to allgenes, plasmodb, various papers and people but no 
actual GUS home page. I was hoping to link to it so it would explain what GUS is 
  and what it can do.

good idea.  and, indeed, there really isn't one.  we do have 
www.gusdev.org, the sourceforge site, which is, i think, what you should 
use for now.

unfortunately, it isn't a very presentable site.

we'll need to think about how to address this.

folks-

i uploaded the .ppt files from the PSU-CBIL meeting, as we discuseed in 
our last phone conference.

two problems:
  1. small: i imported it under the root rather than under scratch/.  (I 
can write the sourceforge admins to have them correct this.)
  2. big: from what i can see, there isn't a way to access the .ppt 
files correctly.  The "download" "HEAD" and "view" links brink up a 
Netscape window which attempts to display the binary files as text. 
 Those are the only links offered. (I used cvs admin -kb to alert the 
CVS server that these files are binary, but that didn't help)

hmm... Internet Explorer did the correct thing with the .ppt file: 
 brought up the dialogue asking me to save or open the file.

in Netscape, when i tried this on the .rtf file it also acted correctly.

I don't have powerpoint on my home computer, so when i return from 
vacation next week, i'll try the .ppt files from work

Steve-

Whenever Netscape does this to you, try right-clicking on the link and choosing 
the option "Save Link As"; you may have to tell it what filename to use, but it
should work.  I was able to download and view the file this way using Netscape.

FIRST -- You probably do not want to mess with your data, so I suggest that 
you disable all read-write-dba access for your login while you do this. 

SECOND -- rule out the obvious for us and make sure: 
     - you have write access to the target dir, 
     - the gus properties file is filled out currectly, all env are correct.

THIRD -- try it again and give us (copy/paste) the command line and any error 
messages you get.
