Hi all, I have just spoken to James Cuff, our sys admin in charge of external CVS. He will have a read/write cvs repository setup by Monday for us to try out. If you are still keen I will need to pass on your desired user names to him so he can set them up on the machine in question (kaka I think). Please email them to me. This machine lives outside of the firwall and gets backed-up regularly (plans for 10 times a day to disk for quick recovery). It has its own password file. When your accounts are created I will phone you to say what the passwords are and then you can ssh in to run passwd. Port 22 (?) is the only one open - this is for ssh. The machine runs only the services needed for CVS and mySQL and is monitored automatically. Your shell would be minimal. The machine is locked down as hard as the sys admins know how. In theory someone could gain access as one of us and alter the CVS repository in some subtle way and everything would still work. Ensembl have majordomo group setup so if anyone commits a change the group gets emailed. You can opt in/out of the group. I think thats it... any comments? Paul. |

The following users have been created in the external repos. > pjm > kmr > axk > art > adh > ejz I did request the following but the sys admins would like names and contact info before creating them. Please send this info to me. If you would like to change users name let me know. Also anyone not on this list please let me know your user name, name and contact details. I will tell you know your passwords via the conference call tomorrow. > crabtree > fischer > pinney > stoeckrt > schug Paul. |

Core should be created first, then SRes, then RAD and DoTS (I don't see any dependencies between DoTS and RAD in the current GUS3.0). Chris |

Steve, I have just talked to James Cuff (ja...@sa...). Because the ssh accounts will be very restrictive (you can't cd out of your home dir) you will not be able to change files in the repository. The Ensembl people who share this system also can not get to the repository. All requests have to go through James and his team: ss...@sa.... As long as the requests don't come thick and fast he is quite happy to make changes for us. Is this a deal breaker? As for service levels, the policy for all Sanger systems is "best efforts" - no SLA's exist here. Now I have said that, the service from all sys admins here is excellent and they are quite prepared to fix things at 1am on a Saturday morning if things go wrong (they have good financial incentives plus time of work to do this :) I can understand any misgivings you may have over what I have described so please discuss with your team and let me know what your thoughts are. Paul. Hello all, It seems that the cvsweb.sanger.ac.uk defaults to the ensembl project root. It is not at all clear where GUS files are. After looking around for a minute or two, I found some pull-down box to specify the "Project Root". But that was only because I knew what I was looking for and also knew that Sanger has more than one CVSROOT on that site. I suggest to change the GUSDB.org website to update the link to http://cvsweb.sanger.ac.uk/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/?root=GUS from http://cvsweb.sanger.ac.uk/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/ -angel -- Angel Pizarro Director, Bioinformatics Facility Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics University of Pennsylvania 806 BRB II/III 421 Curie Blvd. Philadelphia, PA 19104-6160 P: 215-573-3736 F: 215-573-9004 |

I had noticed that too and notified Steve: Date: Wed, 23 Mar 2005 15:52:18 -0500 (EST) From: Elisabetta Manduchi <man...@pc...> To: Steve Fischer <sfi...@pc...> Subject: gusdb link to CVS, changes? Hi Steve, I just went to www.gusdb.org and clicked on the CVS repository link. This took me to Ensembl rather than GUS. I think they changed things there. The following link should take to GUS: http://cvsweb.sanger.ac.uk/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/?root=GUS E.
