Thanks Brian, I had figured it out but I thought I replied back to the list. It seems that using Hyperterm you have to install lrzsz which I cross-compiled on my machine and transferred over. This isn't a requirement for sending files from linux using kermit. However it may be if you want to send files back from the gumstix.
