You can remove stuff with the name bluetooth in it from /etc/rc.d and then it won't try to initialize the bluetooth module. I wrote a little program called sertest, which you can find over here: <http://www.davehylands.com/gumstix-wiki/wikifiles/sertest/> It acts like a simple terminal program.
