Okay well thats good news as it shows that your GPS module is working! Basically at present you don't have a GPS lock hence why there aren't that many characters. To get a lock you need to have the right GPS antenna connected and its probably worth moving the antenna close to a window or even better outside. Getting a lock might take a bit of time so best to leave the gumstix running and leave the cat command running. You can use GPSD if you want however it is possible to extract data in other ways. Once you get a gps lock you'll actually be able to see the data when using the cat command. I personally use a perl script that process the incoming sentences and spit out the information i want : http://www.pegasushabproject.org.uk/pegasus3/software/gpsparser3 . To use that you'll need to bitbake perl. Hope that helps James 2009/8/3 cruizbugs <cru...@ya...>: > > > Yeah, I tried to use cat /dev/ttyS2 > and this is what i got: > root@gumstix-custom-verdex:~$ stty -F /dev/ttyS2 && cat < /dev/ttyS2 > speed 9600 baud; > -brkint -imaxbel > $GPRMC,,V,,,,,,,,,,N*53 > > $GPVTG,,,,,,,,,N*30 > > $GPGGA,,,,,,0,00,99.99,,,,,,*48 > > $GPGSA,A,1,,,,,,,,,,,,,99.99,99.99,99.99*30 > > $GPGSV,1,1,00*79 > > $GPGLL,,,,,,V,N*64 > > $GPZDA,,,,,00,00*48 > > $GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58 > > $GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58 > > $GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58 > > $GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58 > > $GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58 > > $GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58 > > $GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58 > > $GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58 > > $GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58 > > $GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58 > > $GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58 > > $GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58 > > $GPTXT,01,01,01,NMEA unknown msg*58 > > but from this link > http://docwiki.gumstix.org/Frequently_asked_questions/GPSstix_and_Audiostix2#What_can_I_do_with_the_GPS_data_on_the_gumstix.3F > it says that I need to use gpsd to collect the data. > I tried to follow few steps to bitbake the gpsd , but i got error during > compilation. > > actually I just need to get the UTP time from GPS receiver. > am I looking at the right thing? > sorry, I'm confused at these. > > > James Coxon wrote: >> >> Hi, >> >> Have you tried just using cat? >> >> cat /dev/ttyS2 >> >> Data should start coming through - if it is garbled you'll need to >> change the speed of the serial port, have a look here: >> >> http://www.pegasushabproject.org.uk/wiki/doku.php/missions:pegasus3#gps >> >> James >> >> 2009/8/3 cruizbugs <cru...@ya...>: >>> >>> I can't get them to run, >>> >>> This is what i faced: >>> >>> root@gumstix-custom-verdex:~$ gpsd -n /dev/ttyS2 >>> -sh: gpsd: not found >>> root@gumstix-custom-verdex:~$ gpspipe -r >>> -sh: gpspipe: not found >>> >>> Is there any settings that i have to do? >>> >>> >>> Don Shrum wrote: >>>> >>>> You should be able to get data using the command gpspipe.
