Actually, I'm just not following directions. the page http://docwiki.gumstix.org/Recompiling_the_Linux_Kernel explains where to CD to, and what to type to reconfigure the kernel. I've managed to get the ethernet port recognized and it senses link beats. Now I'm fighting with getting to to recognize packets. It may be the DMA issue I've seen on this mailing list. As for the "approved configuration", I found it in gumstix-buildroot/target/device/Gumstix/verdex/linux.config So, I think I'm back on track. Haven't tried the wireless yet. That's next.
