If that's the case, then you can change this line in the /etc/inittab file on the gumstix from: ::respawn:/sbin/getty -L ttyS0 115200 vt100 to be: ::respawn:/bin/sh This will launch a shell, instead of launching getty. getty is what prompts for the username and password. You may want to add --login to the /bin/sh. The --login option to /bin/sh causes sh to treat this as a login shell.
