Sorry for the delay. In short, you'll need to make a daughtercard that's somewhat similar to etherstix, but instead has a USB host. Some documentation (such as that for the TD243) has instructions on how to connect the device to a PXA25x. =20 It might be easier to wait for the next version of the gumstix to debut, which in all likelihood will include an on-chip USB host. ________________________________ From: gum...@li... Can you explain on more detail how can this be done? I have a USB2 board with an OV9650 Camera on it and i want to connect that to Gumstix. So this would really help. =20 =20 Demetris Z. =20 =20 ----- Original Message -----=20 From: J.P. USB 2.0 includes the optional On-The-GO specification. This is the only type of USB where a slave can be a master, and vice-versa. After reading the USB spec a few weeks ago, I was forced to wonder why Firewire didn't beat it. I assume the reason involves marketing and corporate politics. =20 The PXA255 does not have a USB Host peripheral built in. The PXA270 has a host and an OTG host. The Samsung S3C24X0's have very thorough USB peripheral support as well. =20 I am actually in the position where I want to have 3 to 4 USB host ports. If you already have a host peripheral, then a hub IC will work OK, but if not, there are a handful of nice 3x and 4x host ICs on the market. Most of them are fairly easy to connect to the PXA255's DMA bus, and have mature linux support. =20 Cheers, JP =20 =09 =20 ________________________________ From: gum...@li... So I am going to ask a stupid question and maybe someone with more experience can fill me in on the technical reasons for the answers.... =09 Based on the pinouts is it just the lack of power for vbus that keeps a USB device from pretending to be a master? I know that USB 2.0 allows some general use cases where a slave can be a master. I remember reading somewhere that the gumstix would never be a master device, but it would seem that all you need to do is provide a GPIO controlled +5v to the vbus and an appropriate driver and all would be well. Am I way off the mark there? Has someone already fixed this problem when I wasn't looking? I have a need to make the gumstix control some devices and I would like to use the USB bus to make it happen. =09 --Tim. =09 =09 =09 =09 ________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
