I wouldn't recommend putting anything more than 5v on V_BATT. The
gumstix guys moved from a 5v down to a 4v vwall wart because of too
4xAA batteries will vary quite a bit depending on the battery and chemistry.
i.e. NiMH vary from about 1.5v at full charge down to 1v when fully
discharged. So you'll get something between 6v and 4v.
With Alkalines, it's a different range, I think around 1.6v down to
0.8v per cell.
You could get a 5v LDO and put the output of that on V_BATT and put
the input on V_ROBOBATT.

Good, thanks - that's what I needed to know.
I bought the adjustable linear regulator from Dimension Engineering
but that one needs at least 7.0V input to output 5V (at no load).
