Hi all, Well, UPS finally found my Verdex and breakout board....so time to embark on getting the thing networked! I'm familiar with what's required to physically and driver-wise get things going. My question is around which USB Wifi dongles are known to work? Or will pretty much all work? TIA, -marc |

I bought the DWL-G122 H/W Ver.:B1 F/W Ver.:2.02 off of ebay because I knew it had the rt2570 chipset :-) which has open source drivers for linux. Acctually I don't know of many other chipsets you can shoot for most you had to use ndisswrapper which is not an option here and most of the old wifi drivers that are open source don't support any usb devices. Notes: The latest vertex svn build is broken I like revision 1370 the drivers that come with for the rt2750 do not work I had to download them from the cvs from http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com and compile it using the tutorials recomendation I've been having some small issues connecting I have to fight with udhcpc and ifconfig. I first use ifconfig rausb0 up On 5/12/07, Jeff Sadowski <jef...@gm...> wrote: > I bought the DWL-G122 H/W Ver.:B1 F/W Ver.:2.02 off of ebay because I > knew it had the > rt2570 chipset :-) > which has open source drivers for linux. > Acctually I don't know of many other chipsets you can shoot for most > you had to use ndisswrapper which is not an option here and most of > the old wifi drivers that are open source don't support any usb > devices. > > > On 5/12/07, Marc Nicholas <gee...@gm...> wrote: > > Hi all, > > > > Well, UPS finally found my Verdex and breakout board....so time to embark on > > getting the thing networked! > > > > I'm familiar with what's required to physically and driver-wise get things > > going. more on my fighting i first use "ifconfig rausb0 up" then I use "iwlist rausb0 scan" then I connect using "iwconfig rausb0 essid <my essid>" then I use "udhcpc -b -i rausb0" then my connection goes down (roll eyes at how udhcpc does this) then I have to use "ifconfig rausb0 down;ifconfig rausb0 up" to reset the radio then I use the iwconfig commands again and the udhcp still working in the background some how connects and gets me an address. hopefully it will work a little better with wpa_supplicant when I load it. I might have to right some special scripts for the wireless to come up. I know udhcpc shuts down the interface to clear the arp table but I have a better way by listing the arp table with that interface and clearing it one by one. Also it does it to clear the routing table I do that the same way. I'll share my scripts later if anyone is interested. Seems rediculous to bring down the interface all the time. I run mine off the USB port on the gumstix expansion board. On my older waysmall board, I had to solder a jumper to provide power to the USB = port. On my newer audiostox2, the USB port already has power. I would expect that any of the -vx boards would have a powered USB port.
