More on my attempt to get ethernet working on my new verdex xm4:
I loaded new firmware to my verdex xm4.
When I booted I got a bunch of errors about
-e in /etc/modprobe.conf on line 39 and 42, I edited
and now it boots clean.
I found some more of these -e lines in /etc/modules.
Some artifact of the build on Ubuntu 7.04 I imagine.
The ethernet interfaces are not coming up. When I
run ifup by itself, I get the error message:
# ifup eth0
ifup: option with empty value "-e"
Obviously my build is being polluted by a bunch
of -e characters all over the place. I remember reading
about the /bin/sh being linked to /bin/dash (on Ubuntu), and to change
that to /bin/bash. I'm going to try that.
Has anyone seen this before? Any hints?
I downloaded the current svn, 1539, did a make defconfig, followed
by a make (the whole process took several hours). Then, I uploaded
the file system and uImage using the upload to verdex instructions.

Yep - that's exactly the problem (/bin/sh being symlinked to /bin/dash
instead of /bin/bash)
