For best results, the buildroot verssion on the gumstix should match
the buildroot version that you're using on your laptop. There
certainly have been combinations of buildroots which cause exactly the
symptoms that you're describing.
So you either need to uprade the buildroot on your gumstix or
downgrade the buildroot on your build machine.
