I have some pretty basic questions here. Please bear
with me and thanks for your patience.
Immediate problem: I unpacked a tar file containing a JRE
for ARM v4l (a Java 1.3.1 JRE from Blackdown).
(0) Are binaries compiled for ARM v4l executable on ARM v5tel?
(The actual processor type is ARM v5tel.)
(1) When I try to execute some executable, I get this:
sh: /usr/local/java/j2re1.3.1/bin/armv4l/native_threads/java: not found
But the file mentioned (/usr/local/.../java) does exist.
Why the complaint from sh? Is is related to item 0 ??
Background problem: I am looking for a precompiled JRE for ARM v5tel.
The only one I can find is the aforementioned Java 1.3.1
from Blackdown. Any others?
Thanks for any light you can shed on these problems & all the best.

Make sure that the foo file has linux line endingsd and not DOS line
endings. If the file ends in CR-LF then it will be looking for a
filename with a CR at the end.
