I configured my flash with yoto as described on link http://gumstix.org/software-development/how-to/198-create-a-bootable-microsd-card.html The system boots nicely. However, using iwconfig only shows eth0 and lo with no wireless options. There is no wlan0. Thus, I followed the instructions on the link http://gumstix.org/software-development/how-to/252-bring-up-wifi-on-a-yocto-project-image.html Still no wlan0 on iwconfig. My only clues to what is going wrong comes from systemctl reporting dhclient.service faiiled and the net...@wl...rvice is stuck in activating state. At this point, I just want to see wlan0 show up with wireless options to move forward from there. Any suggestions will be helpful. Thanks |

Hi Kerry, are kernel modules loaded? Try 'lsmod' in the terminal. Let me know! I also had similar problem before with omap3.2 from the git tree, and that was due to Marvell Firmware incompatibility with new Libtertas version or problem with newer udev, or other reasons. Do you manually install the wireless firmware? If not, try search forum on how to do that. I didn't manage to solve my problem with 3.2, so I switched to omap3.5 and boom everything works... To summarize, I ran lsmod and found no modules running. Should I expect some modules to load to get wlan0 up? Also, I ran 'uname -a' and Linux overo 3.5.0 is running. I guess what you can try right now is to: 1. Install module to the console image 2. check if you have something like sd8686.bin (name might not be exactly same) under /lib/firmware folder (probably inside other folder, do a search) 3. If not, install the firmware by copy the bin file into to firmware folder. Then reboot. -- View this message in context: http://gumstix.8.x6.nabble.com/no-wlan0-on-overo-airstorm-yocto-console-build-tp4968367p4968377.html Sent from the Gumstix mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

I used the 3.5.0 images along with the instructions on http://wiki.gumstix.org/index.php?title=Overo_Wifi. wpa_supplicant automatically called udhcpc and I am successfully connected. In my case, the 3.5.7 dhclient fix may not be necessary. When you get the uniform 3.5.7 (or later) build, complete, I will give it a try. I'll have to find the file that chooses which dhcp client to use and experiment. For now, I'm up and running. Yes, the rootfs http://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/gumstix-yocto/Releases/2013-08-09/overo/dev/gumstix-console-image-overo.tar.bz2that is associated with uImage 3.5.0 loads modules and iwconfig, ifconfig, wpa_supplicant, etc. work fine. However, the rootfs is missing the dhclient application. Someone must have recognized this problem and generated the rootfs https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/yocto/dhclient-issue/gumstix-console-image-overo.tar.bz2that is associated with kernel 3.5.7. Notice the build even says dhclient-issue in the directory tree. The problem at http://gumstix.org/download-prebuilt-images.html for yocto overo is the uImage for kernel 3.5.0 and is not compatible with the posted console rootfs that is based on 3.5.7. To move forward, I recommend that gumstix posts a rootfs and uImage based on the same kernel that supports dhclient. Otherwise, any customer that wants to use wifi with wpa/wpa2 and console will have the same problem. For now, I am forced to learn how to build my own uImage and rootfs, which is not where I wanted to spend my time. If anyone has a quick guide on how to build the rootfs and uImage, I would be appreciative. Thanks On Fri, Dec 6, 2013 at 5:24 PM, adam <ad...@gu...> wrote: > Kerry, can you try this root file system instead? > http://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/gumstix-yocto/Releases/2013-08-09/overo/dev/gumstix-console-image-overo.tar.bz2 > > This is the original that belongs the rest of the image. > > Let me know! > > Adam > > > On Fri, Dec 6, 2013 at 2:07 PM, thinair89 [via Gumstix] <[hidden email]<http://user/SendEmail.jtp?type=node&node=4968384&i=0> > > wrote: > >> Try depmod ? I was hoping to get you an image by now, but I am running into build issues. Thanks for spotting this problem btw!
