I'm doing something similar and found the same results. There are
functions that use the DSP, but it's a different kernel build I believe.
Search google for Pixhawk, they are doing some pretty neat stuff with
video on the Overo. Let me know how you make out, as I'm struggling with
the same application.

I wanted to get an idea of what codecs, containers, and libraries people
are using to encode video in real time on the gumstix. We are trying to
encode 640x960 at 10 fps and the stock libavcodec, and are finding it to
be too slow. Are there dsp-enabled libraries for this?
