I did some electronics with the FIRST robotics team I mentored but for
the most part they lay out everything for you. Also I am a CS major so I
can handle the programming, it's really just the wiring and hardware I
am not sure about. My personal project this summer is going to be an
automated bar that I wanted to control using a gumstix. I have a grasp
that I am going to need a couple of solenoids and a food liquid pump but
I am unsure about how I interface these components with the gumstix
motherboard. Also do I use a breakout expansion board or do I need a
robostix board? Unfortunately in FIRST everything is taken care of for
you including the voltages needed, the proper gauge cables, and a lot of
the wiring is idiot proofed, so I am at a loss as to where I begin. I
have been reading the documentation and attempting to figure it out
myself but having never taken any kind of a hardware course yet in
school I am teaching myself.
