Hello, I am somewhat of a newbie, but I can't seem to get Bluetooth to work on the latest Overo Air chips (R2426). No devices on "hcitool dev" and timeout on "bluetooth start"
I know this has been discussed, but the only definite answer seemed to be to RMA the module, which I just did, and received 3 more R2426 Oveor Air modules, which also seem to fail.
In fact, of the 6 modules I ordered, it seems that only 1 has functioning
Bluetooth. It is also the only module that is not labeled with GS3503A-R2426 W/O#:68275. The label on the one working module is GS3503A-R2279 W/O#:68187, which I presume is an older version.
Does anyone have an R2426 chip where the Bluetooth works? If, so is there some sort of setup that is necessary? What am I missing?
Bluetooth functionality is the reason I am purchasing these. Is there any way I can:
1) Revert the R2426 so that it works like the R2279?
2) Obtain R2279 modules (shipped in a smaller, clear plastic box) in exchange for these?
3) Fix whatever is wrong with the R2426 Bluetooth?
Thank you for your time.

I was seeing the same thing, some worked some did not.
As the wifi section of the part was working my guess was they may have got a
batch of parts that did not have the Bluetooth firmwware programmed. You part
number observation may be further evidence as I believe OEM firmware loading
is an option on this part. In any case QA should have caught it as they all
appear to have come from Gumstix nonfunctioning.
Gumstix recently shipped a number of Overo Air and Overo Fire COMs with
defective wireless modules. While the wifi portion of the module worked
properly, the Bluetooth portion did not.
COMs containing the defective modules will have the following message in the
Starting Bluetooth subsystem:
Initialization timed out.
