Hi, I'm trying to integrate an Overo Water + Palo 43 + Samsung LCD in an embedded project. Power input is a 2S 5Ah LiPo battery. I want the system to be completely shut down when not used, with minimum current consumption to preserve battery. The overo will be powered by a 5V 2A pre-regulator that I can disable, but I need a trigger from the COM to know when to disable power. Are SYS_EN or POWERON pins suitable for that, or do I have to use a GPIO (then how to set the GPIO hi/low after the system is shut down) ? Can I power VBACKUP pin to preserve RTC ? At which level 1.8V, 3.3V ? I'll also need a sort of "sleep" mode, I think the OMAP can handle that and need to read more about it before asking questions. Best regards, Thomas Legrand. |

The Overo cannot accept 5V. Range is ~3.2V - 4.6V. I found that the Overo can start reliably above ~3.2V and once started can run down to ~3.0V without problems. If you can run directly from a single cell Li battery that would give the best efficiency. I just realised that when you say "The overo will be powered by a 5V 2A pre-regulator" that instead you may mean that the supply to the Palo will be 5V and the Overo is subsequently powered by the Palo. Is that what you meant? If so, then 5V will be okay to power the Palo since the Palo has an onboard 3.3V regulator to power the Overo. On 10/2/09, R. P. Hi, Sorry, my mistake, of course I'll power the PALO with the 5V switching pre-reg (that's why it's a PRE-reg, the palo reg is the real reg). I'll read the PMIC datasheet for VBACKUP (but as there is no COM schematics available, I hope the VBACKUP COM pin is effectively the PMIC VBACKUP pin ...). Any idea on detecting Overo shut down (to shut down its power at the same time) ? Speaking of power management, has anybody worked on a 'power only' board for the overo? I'm interested in using the overo air over its built-in wireless with a camera connected to the J5 camera interface, so don't really need any i/o board services other than power and charge control for a battery pack. t. Hello, After havine read some infos on the Overo PMIC (TPS65950), I have some more questions. TPS65950 can act as slave or master, depending on hardware configuration. Which mode on the Overo COM ? For VBACKUP, I'll need to put about 3V on this pin, but on the TPS65950, there is a built in charger for backup battery. Is it disabled on the overo COM ? The SYSEN is supposed to be used to control peripheral power supplies, can I use it to detect the overo has gone shutdown (I mean does it really work on the overo COM) ? Same for POWERON (which is supposed to be a power on/off push button with pullup resistor) ? I ask because as far as I remember, when I do a software shutdown on my Water COM + Palo 43 on a compiled omap3-desktop-image, linux shutdown, but the system (I mean the LCD) remains powered, this is unacceptable as it will draw a lot of mA from the battery. Is it managed by the linux system ? Are these pins really functionnal or do I have to "override" these functions with additionnal power management ? Of course I will test these pins ASAP on my board, hoping I will not smoke everything.
