Hello fellow gumstixers, I recently acquired an Overo Earth and Tobi board to try them out as a replacement for a Technologic TS7200 in some embedded operating system work I want to do. However, I'm having issues getting started, and I'm looking for pointers on debugging this. At boot, I don't get any output over the serial line. I have the Earth on the Tobi board; no microSD card (So booting from whatever should be on the NAND?). How I'm set up: RedHat RHEL5 computer connected via USB. USB Green LED lights. run `sudo screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200 8N1`. Screen opens, displays nothing. I connect power to the Tobi. A second green LED on the Overo lights. I get EOF as soon as I read from the serial port. (IE, screen exits.) I will try booting from microSD (I don't have one yet), but I don't see how that would help, as I would expect at least output from the boot rom. |

What package provides the "screen" command on your system? The usual "screen" program provides detachable sessions, rather than communications with a serial port. You might try moserial, minicom or some other serial terminal application, and see if that provides better results. Michael Poole |

Few things it could be Is it ttyUSB0 ? not other usb serial adapters plugged in ? Have you tried with another terminal program just to make sure its not a problem with screen ? minicom or kermit ? Could also be the two boards are not connected properly (not fully snapped together - remove power first before checking) or factory image in nand is corrupted ? or problem with the usb cable or power supply ? Matthew have you followed this step by step ? http://www.gumstix.net/Setup-and-Programming/view/Overo-Setup-and-Programming/Getting-started/111.html Alex -- UTS CRICOS Provider Code: 00099F DISCLAIMER: This email message and any accompanying attachments may contain confidential information. Can happen even with those white push in connectors gumstix supplies. Better to get some nylon screws and nuts and spacers and bolt them down so there is no play. Need it if you are going to put a heatsink on the omap chip (overo earth/water/Tide) or on the wifi chipset on overo air/fire/FE boards. Depends on ambient conditions and if its going into a box or not. (Here in summer it hits up to 45 *C and box temp can hit 65*C especially in sunlight) Alex -- UTS CRICOS Provider Code: 00099F DISCLAIMER: This email message and any accompanying attachments may contain confidential information.
