I remember you saying sometime ago that jerase was sort of broken, I was
wondering how is the status today
xm gumstixes takes quite a while to boot (yet more at the first time), I
was wondering if jerase would help

jerase will only help the first time, but it's still broken. I think
the "right" fix is more involved than just figuring out how JFFS2
changed and have jerase write the new headers into flash -- rather,
there are more extensive fixes to u-boot's conception of JFFS2 which
are needed. And if someone's going to take those on (it will
eventually be me), then might as well add support in u-boot for the
sumtool stuff, and then use sumtool on the jffs2 images.
This broken-jffs2-in-uboot situation is actually getting a little
more urgent now that I've discovered that occasionally the "fsload"
will fail the first time when booting, thereby interrupting the boot
process. On the one system I've seen this on so far, retrying the
fsload will make it succeed -- but that result is not promising, and
breaks the default bootcmd.
