I'm trying to work out what JTAG hardware I should get. We require the
ability to debug native (non-Linux, eg U-boot etc) applications over
JTAG and to also reflash the Gumstix if we have a problem.
I was thinking of using the Macraigor USBWiggler, however I note that
they don't have a 'free' flash programmer application. Is this JTAG
device recommended by anyone? Are there any better ones out there?
Which is the most versatile for 3rd party tools (eg. mix/match hardware
and software providers)?
Similarly, can anyone recommend some free (or better priced than $500
for their flash app) flash applications which I can use to reflash the
Gumstix if I need to?
What about debugging applications? Macraigor have OCD Commander which
is their free debugger software, but I don't know how good that is.
I've used P&E Micro's Coldfire Debugger in the past and found it good -
but P&E are a Freescale outfit and don't appear to support XScale. What
I'm after the the ability to step through C code (rather than just the
resultant assembler) etc. Pretty basic really. Unfortunately, I can't
try out OCD Commander's UI etc without a Macraigor device.

i have an usbWiggler and now it seems to work fine, but i had to add a
pullup resitor(4k7) from
vcc to the reset-line(NRESET) on the verdex-jtag board in order to get
it to work.
I can't tell you how good this works, because i still have to reflash my
Now i'm just waiting for Craig to upload the verdex-version of
