Hi, I'm looking at the gumstix to be incorporated into a consumer
electronics device, or at least to build a prototype based on it. I've
made some preliminary requirements & would like to hear your advice on
using gumstix for this project. I like the gumstix form factor but I
kinda fear we'll need to do a lot of custom work to fulfill these
* Requires 2 to 4 USB 2.0 ports.
* Gumstix gets power from one of the 2 USB ports. USB 2.0 seems to
output 5V which is enough to run the gumstix? Is it possible to make the
gumstix boot automatically when power is detected on the USB port?
* Dynamic switching of USB ports from host to client mode based on a
signal coming from software running on the gumstix. Again: is this
possible or am I dreaming? (I'm kinda expecting a thorough beating with
the cluestick on this one, but go ahead ...)
* Charging a small battery to allow graceful shutdown when the power is
I've been going through the archives & seen some useful pointers, but
I'd like to know the up-to-date status of these things? What about USB
2.0 host & client in upcoming version? When is next gen coming out? How
many usb ports will it support?
If you can give me more detailed specs, I'm ready to pre-order the next-gen.
Cheers - Francis
