Here's a suggestion for gumstix add-on: socket for 1.8" hard drive.
These drives are becoming commodity items and prices are dropping.
Capacity is now up to 80GB! None of the X-Scale boards have sockets
for these, although a few have ATA IDE header. I found a 2.5" to
1.8" adapter here:
A 1GB MMC card is around $90. Here's a 40GB 1.8" drive for $140
I suppose an adapter could be made to connect the 1.8" drives to
CF socket, but it would be even better to have a gumstix board
with socket for 1.8" drive.
There are also many cheap 1.8" external usb enclosures
Of course we can't use those with no host USB port (one more reason
to have one, ideally USB 2.0 for fast drive access).
On a related topic, there is compactflash breakout adapters here:
Perhaps it would be possible to use one of these connected to the
Gumsitix breakout boards, to add CF to BasicX platform?
