Open Embedded is a completely different distribution. If you want to use
Debian, you should look into debootstrap (probably with QEmu) to create
a Debian root filesystem. I've done that on a bootable MicroSD for
Overo, so I guess it's possible for Verdex. There is a pretty good
A problem with that approach is that Debian does not have kernels for
Gumstix (or at least had the last time I checked), so you'll have to
cross-compile the kernel by yourself and extract it into the rootfs. I
suggest using the kernel makefile's "deb-pkg" target and "dpkg
--extract". Reinstall the kernel package once you have the system
running to get a clean install.
If you're using Debian or Ubuntu you can get ready-to-use
Cross-Compilers form Emdebian (http://www.emdebian.org/). The keyring
for the Emdebian package repository is available in the package
emdebian-archive-keyring in the default repositories.
