Hi all, I have just received two Overo Fire boards and a new revised Tobi Board (PCB version R2411). I already own an Overo Earth and a Summit Board (PCB version R2185). The problem I have is that the Overo Fire boards I have got do not fit correctly onto either the Summit or the Tobi boards. I believe this is due to a capacitors (C115) on the underside of the Overo Fire fouling what I believe is IC7 (the large IC directly beneath the Overo) on the daughtercard. The 70 pin connector beneath the Wireless chip on the Overo Fire does not seat fully into its socket as a result, unless force is applied to the boards to flex them slightly and ensure a good connection. The connector will not remain seated on its own. Obviously this is not desirable! As I am reasonably skilled in swapping surface mount components, I may be able to try and re - locate C115 using enameled wire or, depending on its value, (which I would have to measure), remove it and replace it with a lower - profile equivalent. Naturally this is a last resort, as doing so would void the warranty. I am aware of the problems with the old Tobi board, but has anyone else had these problems with the newer Tobi board and the Summit board? I thought I had that problem with a Fire and an old Tobi (after removing IC5, which is the main obstruction, from the Tobi). So I removed IC7 too, and the COM still had a very small bend, which is probably within manufacturing tolerances when you try to align two pairs of connectors. But I just checked a Summit (which still has IC7), and indeed the connector is maybe not perfectly seated in the upper-left corner. I probably would not have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it. Screws would probably hide this, without even tightening them. I'd like to know if it's safe to remove or reposition C115, though. Pascal |
