KIPR (the folks who run BotBall -- a large national robotics high
school competition) have finally abandoned the Handyboard and RCX and
have jumped ship to the XPort this year. The XPort is a nifty
controller which plugs into a GameBoy Advance (which has a 16MHz ARM7),
and provides a big FPGA to do robotics stuff. Nice use of COTS.
I'm mentioning this because I had indicated in the past that one use of
the Robostix is for competitions like these. Just because KIPR's
switched doesn't mean much: they'll be willing to switch again if it's
a good design. I think the XPort's #1 useful hook is the Gameboy:
sound output, a good LCD screen, and various buttons.
