You could try to read a register from the device using the i2c
program, mentioned at the bottom of this page:
For example, if you have a robostix with the i2c-bootloader running, then
i2c 0x0b rb 0
will return 0x00 if the device is detected. You'll need to check with
your particular device to find out what the register map looks like.
Some device only have write registers, some only have read registers,
With the robostix and i2c-bootloader, you can do:
i2c-load 0x0b info
to get a more complete indication.
