I've been noticing some strange things with the bluetooth implementation on the gumstix. First I cannot get a pan connection to operate stably at any rate over 115200 (in /etc/default/bluetooth). Is there something I'm doing wrong there? Second, it seems that only one tcp connection can be made across the pan at a time :/. Even obeying the first 2 observations sometimes I get random connection failures, and Unknown HCI packet type messages. Are any of these known issues, and is there any way to mitigate these problems? -wink |

I had to disable RFCOMM. I do see unknown HCI messages in the log which I attributed to interference from my 2.4GHZ cordless phone. I have used ftp through the connection which as I remember it opens multiple ports. I do not have any 802.11 nearby. It seems to me bluez was updated that might fix some issues, but gumstix is not using the updated version. I tried disabling RFCOMM in /etc/default/bluetooth with no luck :(. At 921600, after a few minutes (of even idling) I get hci_acl_tx_to: hci0 ACL tx timeout etc etc Let me know if there is anything else I can do :/ |

Gumstix SVN has the latest bluez - 2.10 I haven't built a new rootfs image to stick on sf.net yet while waiting to make sure people try out the new 2.6.9-rc1 kernel and confirm it's working right. I'm pretty keen to do that soonish though, because RNDIS now works great in the new kernel. C David Farrell wrote: DF> I had to disable RFCOMM. I've seen some of those things intermittently myself, but I have more 2GHz devices around me than it's probably safe to be sitting near, so I'd always just chalked it up to interference -- moving the board a little and rebooting seemed generally to clear things up -- but recently I've been thinking that this might actually be a more fundamental problem; I'll check into whether there's a firware update for the ROK bluetooth module, or any other people who've seen problems with it. The interface to it is *really* simple though, so I can't picture there's likely to be a huge problem on the linux side, unless it's that the kernel isn't handling the errors it's getting from the device properly or something... wink wrote: w> I've been noticing some strange things with the bluetooth implementation on w> the gumstix. Ok thanks. At the moment it's becoming a rather big problem for me as my project requires the wireless connectivity and I cannot get the bluetooth connection to behave stably at all. I'm going to try to disable rfcomm in the kernel and see if that will help. Unfortunately it shouldn't be an interferance issue for me as I have no wireless gear, and my bluetooth usb dongle is sitting < 6 inches away from the gumstix antenna. Let me know if you can think of anything for me to try, I'll be game :). -wink |

I just upgraded to the latest kernel. In addition to disabling RFCOMM (in /etc/default/bluetooth) I have to disable USB networking in /etc/network/interfaces. As a gross test I have the gumstix continously pinging my cable router via a Belkin F8T030 bluetooth gate. At the same time I am transferring mp3s from a XP machine to a Pocket PC via bluetooth. here seems to be no interference. I'll leave the connection going this weekend to see how long is stays. If that is the case you're doing better than I. I'm having problems transferring a 2mb file (root_arm_fs) at the default 921600. |

I did some more testing and I did start having problems with PAN. After several hours of use I was losing the connection. Then I noticed my kernel was build for 200MHZ. Previously I saw problems with 200MHZ but this is not conclusive. I tried my access point with my iPAQ H1945 and it has been constantly connected for the past two days. So much for interference. One thing I will try on the next failure is l2ping. This may help identifier the layer at which things fail. Hi David, will try the same with an socket application. Should run at least one day... Have a linksys bluetooth dongle - will try this one on my notebook. When not disconnected correctly I get tons of timeout messages. More tests: When bluetooth NAP fails, constant messages to the login console: NETDEV WATCHDOG: bnep0: transmit timed outci_acl_tx_to: hci0 ACL tx timeout NETDEV WATCHDOG: bnep0: transmit timed outci_acl_tx_to: hci0 killing stalled AC The /var/log/messages tail: Dec 31 16:32:47 gumstix kern.err kernel: hci_acl_tx_to: hci0 ACL tx timeout Dec 31 16:32:47 gumstix kern.err kernel: hci_acl_tx_to: hci0 killing stalled ACL Dec 31 16:32:48 gumstix kern.err kernel: hci_acl_tx_to: hci0 ACL tx timeout Dec 31 16:32:48 gumstix kern.err kernel: hci_acl_tx_to: hci0 killing stalled ACL Dec 31 16:32:48 gumstix kern.err kernel: hci_cmd_task: hci0 command tx timeout When this is true I cannot L2PING the NAP. I turned off the NAP and reboot. Now the gumstix is searching for a NAP. I L2PING my iPAQ H1945 and pings work then fail every 10 or 2 (read random). So on the gum I set PAND_ENABLE=false and reboot. Now I L2PING my iPAQ and pings work forever. I suspect the bluetooth stack does not like L2PING and NAP discovery happening at the same time. BTW with the L2PING working forever I can only get about 15ft away from the gumstix before the link dies. For the class I guess this is ok. BTW2 When gum is searching for the NAP is does not like other BT devices around. My linksys USBBT100 responds as does my Belkin NAP and the gum will not connect to the NAP. I disconnect the USBBT100 and the gum connects to the NAP. It may be better to bond the gum to the NAP. David. bou...@bl... wrote: Hi David, will try the same with an socket application.
