Hi, I am about to buy a usb dongle for my Verdex X4M, any suggestion for manufacturer/model? After a bit of search it seems to me that any adapter that uses a Ralink chip should be fine: http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/wiki/index.php/Hardware I just wanted to hear back from somebody who has already got results. thanks -- Renzo |

I have the same one. It will connect to wep but wpa_supplicant does not work with it. you can use iwpriv to set wpa_psk but it is very different than regular wireless networking. the rt2x00 driver is not ready yet. I've been on that development list for a few years now and it seems to be moving dirt slow. I couldn't get the driver in gumstix's buildroot to work Downloading rt2x00 is nearly imposable. The one I built for Jon was from downloaded sources, and is in fact, the same as the one in buildroot. Neither one of us has tried to use wpa though. -- Dave Hylands Vancouver, BC, Canada http://www.DaveHylands.com/ |

given the fact that the rt2x00 drivers are not released as a module itself and only as part of a whole offshot kernel makes me wonder where you got the driver. And using git was really making me frustrated it never completed a download it always errored out for me. How did you build the driver from buildroot every time I tried it was trying to build the rt2750 for the next kernel. Thats another thing I noticed I did find a rt2x00 from debian sight somewhere and built it. I was told on the rt2x00 mailing list that this was an outdated driver. but it compiled and installed on my fedora core 6 as rt2500 and it gave the network node with that module. So it having the rt2750 instead of rt2500 sounds different than the rt2x00 project. Hmmm. Maybe I'm not talking about the same thing as you. I got the driver sources from this page: <http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support/Linux.html> in particular, this tarball: <http://www.ralinktech.com.tw/data/RT25USB-SRC-V2.0.8.0.tar.gz> > How did you build the driver from buildroot every time I tried it was > trying to build the rt2750 for the next kernel. Yeah - there are a bunch of versions that refernce the wrong kernel version. I simply corrected the .mk file. > Thats another thing I > noticed I did find a rt2x00 from debian sight somewhere and built it. > I was told on the rt2x00 mailing list that this was an outdated > driver. > but it compiled and installed on my fedora core 6 as rt2500 and it > gave the network node with that module. yes 2570 oops my mistake so that looks like the driver from the original manufacture and not from http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com I'll try that driver again but I thought the drivers from http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com where more resent. I could not get wpa_supplicant working for me.
