Has anyone tried to solar power a Gumstix? If so, are there any resources on the web I can look at ? Thanks. |

i'm working on onother project with use of Solar power and i must say that i am using couple of RF trancievers which are drawing power from batteries and recharging at the same time, but the power is very difficult to stabilize especially when no sun is for about 2 hours the batteries start to drain and to charge them again it takes another 2 hours with variable sun light :) |

I didn't look closely (was trying to reign in my 2-year old daughter =20 at the time), but I'm pretty sure I saw some kind of mini solar panel =20= thing (looked bigger than that handheld one) at Fry's a few months =20 ago, on an endcap. iirc it was the Fry's in Sunnyvale. No idea as =20 to manufacturer or power rating or anything, but the box looked to be =20= about 10"x10" or so, so the panel is probably roughly 9"x9" or so, =20 which I imagined would provide quite a good output current @5V. I =20 like the handheld's incorporation of batteries into the unit itself =20 which will help smooth over those cloudy/night periods without =20 requiring your own battery setup. You should find rootfs.arm_nofpu.jffs2 in the gumstix-buildroot directory. If you don't then that means that your make didn't work properly (and should have printed an error message of some type). The tail end of a successful make should look like this (notice that the fully qualified path of the jffs2 file is the very last thing printed) Makefile:34: no file name for `-include' gcc -I../include -O2 -Wall -g -c -o crc32.o crc32.c -g -Wp,-MD,.crc32.c.dep gcc -I../include -O2 -Wall -g -c -o compr_rtime.o compr_rtime.c -g -Wp,-MD,.compr_rtime.c.dep gcc -I../include -O2 -Wall -g -c -o mkfs.jffs2.o mkfs.jffs2.c -g -Wp,-MD,.mkfs.jffs2.c.dep gcc -I../include -O2 -Wall -g -c -o compr_zlib.o compr_zlib.c -g -Wp,-MD,.compr_zlib.c.dep gcc -I../include -O2 -Wall -g -c -o compr.o compr.c -g -Wp,-MD,.compr.c.dep gcc -o mkfs.jffs2 crc32.o compr_rtime.o mkfs.jffs2.o compr_zlib.o compr.o -lz make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/toolchain_build_arm_nofpu/mtd_snapshot/util' /sbin/ldconfig -r /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/root 2>/dev/null # Use fakeroot to pretend all target binaries are owned by root cp -f /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/fakeroot-devs.env /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/fakeroot.env /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/usr/bin/fakeroot \ -i /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/fakeroot.env \ -s /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/fakeroot.env -- \ chown -R root:root /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/root # Use fakeroot to pretend to create all needed device nodes /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/usr/bin/fakeroot \ -i /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/fakeroot.env \ -s /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/fakeroot.env -- \ /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/bin/makedevs \ -d target/generic/device_table.txt \ /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/root rootdir=/home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/root table='target/generic/device_table.txt' # Use fakeroot so mkfs.jffs2 believes the previous fakery /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/usr/bin/fakeroot \ -i /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/fakeroot.env \ -s /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/staging_dir/fakeroot.env -- \ /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/toolchain_build_arm_nofpu/mtd_snapshot/util/mkfs.jffs2 \ -e 0x20000 -q -l \ -d /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/root \ -o /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/rootfs.arm_nofpu.jffs2 -rw-r--r-- 1 dhylands dhylands 3166880 May 24 20:29 /home/dhylands/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot/rootfs.arm_nofpu.jffs2 -- Dave Hylands Vancouver, BC, Canada http://www.DaveHylands.com/ |
