Hi all,  I'm still a newbie at Linux and gumstix. I thought I had enabled the boot from SD card, but when I attempts the boot I only got to the point where the gumstix claims it can not open a initial console. See below for output... Is there a wiki that covers how to configure a bitbake build for SD cards on overo or verdex? I have searched for one but came up empty. Thanks - Charles Starting kernel ... Hi, I flashed my verdex XL6P gumstix with the prebuilt x11 32MB image(OE). I programmed a small GUI application on my host linux with only 1 header file, 2 cpp file and want to compile it to run on the gumstix. I'm not sure how to do it, can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance. Jeff |

you gotta go into the menuconfig before building your kernel. Enable the PCMCIA support for network devices in one of the menus. Also, ad-hoc mode runs really really hot, and for some reason the driver doesn't allow you to turn on the power management settings like it does in the other modes. You probably don't want ad-hoc mode if you are connecting to a WiFi access point. Probably want "managed" instead. And skip the udhcpd instructions on that page you referenced also. Your interfaces file would be something like: auto wlan0 iface wlan0 inet dhcp wireless_mode managed wireless_essid access_point_name ________________________________ From: nmelga01 <nicholas.melgar@...> To: gumstix-users@... Hi again, thanks for your previous help on the wifi and the Overo Air.. I was able to get the wifi connected with WEP. However, we have some other questions.. 1. We are trying to send out a RS-232 signal from the gumstix. According to the Summit overview sheet there are two two-wire serial ports on the Summit board.. Is that on the 40 pin connector or somewhere else? We were planning to use the mini-b to USB Standard A to connect to a USB-standard A to Serial, but if we could do the previous it would be better. 2. If we can use serial on the board, we'd like to use java to send information out. What would be a good solution for this? Is there anything special about the Overo's serial outputs we might need to know? We're thinking of rxtx for serial communication but if anyone knows of something simpler/better please let me know. 3. We know we can't use standard java on the gumstix. I've looked at a couple of solutions just by googling "java on gumstix" but considering most were for the Verdex I'm not sure what would work best. I understand we'll need a java virtual machine, compiler, and interpreter. Best solution for the Overo Air? Thanks for any and all help.. - A. Phelps |

Are you really wanting an ad-hoc network? Are you trying to connect to an already existing network provided by a WAP? I just went thru all this with my Verdex, so I can probably help you out. The netpro-vx will have a blue LED for Wifi that briefly blinks when the verdex starts up and the module is loaded. Did you get that? Are you using the kernel that came pre-loaded on the verdex, or did you bitbake your own? --brad ________________________________ From: nmelga01 <nicholas.melgar@...> To: gumstix-users@... What are the errors when you try to set LDFLAGS? You should also be able to do something with EXTRA_OE_MAKE in the bitbake recipe to set LFLAGS if that works better with your code (that might not be the exact variable -- conveniently my computer's motherboard decided to die last night so I can't check to know for sure). You can check the documents at openembedded.org for more about the variables you can set. Hi Steve, Is there anybody at gumstix who could confirm what the lowest (theoretical) possible power usage value is while in sleep mode on the overo? Or, is this something that is unknown? Has anyone at gumstix worked on this at all? What kinds of results did you manage to achieve? Thanks for your response. It seems everyone is relating this GNU_HASH error to wrong use of LDFLAGS. The thing is my recipe includes a makefile for compilation that uses LFLAGS instead of LDFLAGS, this makefile was written by another party. I tried to google LFLAGS but there is hardly any information about its use, and any attempt I have made so far to replace LFLAGS with LDFLAGS causes compile errors, but then again my experience is very limited. Here is the makefile: CFLAGS=-I. -Wall LFLAGS=-lrt DEPS = cmt1.h OBJSTATIC = cmt1.o cmt2.o cmt3.o cmtmessage.o cmtpacket.o cmtscan.o xsens_std.o xsens_time.o all: static mtidetect %.o: %.cpp $(DEPS) $(CXX) $(CFLAGS) -c -o $@ $< mtidetect: $(OBJSTATIC) example_linux.cpp $(CXX) $(CFLAGS) $(LFLAGS) $(OBJSTATIC) -lncurses example_linux.cpp -o mtidetect static: $(OBJSTATIC) ar rcs libcmt.a $^ Chris Dollar wrote: > > IIRC that error shows up when the bitbaked package gets built using > the host LDFLAGS rather than those for the target. Hi, I am trying to get my Overo air to connect to my wireless router. I have used network setup to configure eth0 for my wireless which uses WEP. The etc/network/interfaces file (well the bit for wireless) looks like this: iface eth0 inet dhcp wireless_essidSKY71548 wireless_mode managed wireless_channel 1 wireless_key key s:PCDFMDN [1] key [1] key restricted Can anyone tell me if this looks correct? Also when I try and load the connection manager nothing happens. Is there something else that I can use if I cannot fix this? Thank you in advance, Andy |

I configured the wireless option under eth0 with 3 settings auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp wireless_mode managed wireless_key wireless_essid and when i reboot it, it gives me an error like this Configuring network interfaces... Where are you measuring your current? Have you eliminated all other current consumers from the measuring point? Shutting down the TPS65950 USB PHY saves ~30mA, maybe this is a major portion of your excess current? Shutting down the PPLLs can also save ~4mA each. Just run them in bypass mode. Inside the Overo, shut down the DSS, USBHOST, CAM and any other modules you are not using. Make sure all unused GPIOs are either set to output or are in safe mode. As for the code, my boss won't allow me to release it, sorry. But I will try to write a small summary later just giving the various module settings etc. I'll see how much time I can find in the next few weeks. Read the boot messages and look for the libertas_sdio messages. If you are running the code that came with your Overo you will find that the libertas driver comes up as eth0. If you build your own images, and have pulled recently, you will find that there are now udev rules that rename it automatically to wlan0. You'll have to adjust your /etc/network/interfaces file accordingly. Steve |

The wireless here uses WEP and I've edited /etc/network/interfaces to include the key and the ESSID time and time again.. It keeps insisting that wlan0 doesn't exist, and I don't know what to do. I've noticed a lack of information on the gumstix site for this problem. Can anyone help me out? |

Hello, I am in need of the dimensions of the tobi and the combined "interfaced" dimensions of the tobi and water boards. The purpose of this is that I am working in a restricted environment that allows minimal volume for the computational power. Also, does anyone know if it is possible to create a cluster with multiple combined water and tobi boards similar to how people have created 'super computers' out of Playstation 3s? Also, is there anybody from Gumstix here that can give me some information of what the support for PM kernels is like from their side? Is anybody at Gumstix working on this at all? In addition to seeing this error on both my Fedora 8 and Ubuntu 9.04 host systems (this is a me2 in an attempt to elicit a response ;-) , I am seeing a message about md5 being deprecated in python2.6, which kills the build on my Ubuntu system. How do I coerce the recipe to use python2.5 (which I have installed) to avoid this error?
