Hey all. I was testing a serial i/o program that I am writing today, and I killed it with a control-C. The next time I went to run it, I got the error "Bad file descriptor" when I tried to write to ttyS2 (I was able to open a file descriptor for ttyS2, though...). Rebooting the gumstix made no difference. I should point out that I was being stupid and running my code as root. How should I fix this? There is the brute-force solution of reflashing the filesystem, but I would prefer a more elegant solution, if there is one. thanks, -Chris |

I'm looking into this right now -- looks like the uboot CF code is not initializing the CPLD right on the wifi-CF board. I thought I'd implemented that, but apparently not... Hi Craig, This one bit me in the bum again. The munmap is unmapping from 0 not map causing memory to eventually get exhausted. Hard to find. The fd was global also. Not necessary and confusing. Could you apply this patch? Laurence, sorry to hear that. The only thing I can think of is to stick a Tweener board on your Gumstix and monitor the boot process via a serial terminal (e.g. HyperTerminal on Windows or Minicom on Linux). Sorry I can't be more helpful, Robert |

We will have 2 new versions of the waysmall and breakout boards in order to bring out the PXA270 signals for the extra 2 LCD lines and to utilize the SYS_EN line for power management. To place these in the right family of boards on pubs, I created new directories. (Dave H., I hope this nesting doesn't break your recently published script for downloading them all) In any case, if anyone has some last-minute feedback for us on the boards, now would be the time! Check them at: http://pubs.gumstix.com/boards/BREAKOUT/VX/ http://pubs.gumstix.com/boards/WAYSMALL/VX/ Gordon |

If I do need to use a converter, how could I make one. You definitely need a converter. The 3.3v Tx from the gumstix going into the 5v Rx may work fine with no conversion. Depending on the baud rate, you might be able to get away with a resistor divider network in the other direction. There are lots of voltage conversion chips available, it just depends on how much you want to spend, how big you want it, and how much extra circuitry you want. -- Dave Hylands Vancouver, BC, Canada http://www.DaveHylands.com/ |

The audiostix 2 have 3.3v logic level serial interfaces, so when hooking up a 5v logic level serial device, do I need to use a converter, or convert the 5v to 3.3v. If I do need to use a converter, how could I make one. Thanks, Alex Haack |

How is this different? df on /tmp asks tmpfs (in fact, I think that since gumstix lacks support for swap, ramfs is used instead), and it's implementation is incomplete is not collecting the necessary data. > df looks at the freelist and reports the > number of free blocks in the filesystem. du, when traversing the > filesystem, counts the blocks in use but doesn't count things like > directory entries, special files (named pipes) or device files. > .. which takes memory from the tmpfs, but aren't correctly computed, which is irrelevant for that specific measurement I was refering too, at least on my case, since I only had one subdirectory and no special nodes. Hello I'm having trouble compiling working buildroot with cross compiler for Gumstix. I successfully compiled revision 1160, but after installing image wlan went missing. When I'm trying to compile revision 1078 (which came with our gumstix device, and has working wlan) it fails with following error: toolchain/getter_script.sh -P /home/roomba/src/src2/gumstix-buildroot/dl http://files.gumstix.com/cf8385-5.0.16.p0-26306.tbz --16:03:24-- http://files.gumstix.com/cf8385-5.0.16.p0-26306.tbz => `/home/roomba/src/src2/gumstix-buildroot/dl/cf8385-5.0.16.p0-26306.tbz' Resolving files.gumstix.com... 216.139.227.50 Connecting to files.gumstix.com|216.139.227.50|:80... connected. Thanks for replying Michael, It seems due to popular demand we'll stay on list for this :) > On 3/14/07, Daniel O'Shea <dan@...> wrote: > > ...it would be great if you could keep the discussion on-list, I for one > > would also be very interested in this! > > me too, please keep the discussion on list I'm currently at the stage where I have the screen connected and the framebuffer set up built into the kernel. I've redirected the output of a python curses script to /dev/fb0 which writes noise from the top left of the screen to the bottom right at which point the script fails with; error no space left on device. I guess this is because each char from curses is being written to half a pixel? My question is how do I go about compiling into the kernel an 8x16 font like you said, and how do I configure it so that the fb is treated like a tty and a char sent to it will be handled properly. When the compiling libusb within the buildroot, it seems that it only copies libusb*.so* and does not actually install into the $(TARGET_DIR) with all files not just the libraries this has a big effect on Compiling Sane within the buildroot, because sane (for usb support) requires that the usb.h file is present in the $(TARGET_DIR)/usr/include also it would be nice to have the scanner module included i've tried to add the device driver from menuconfig for both busybox and the kernel, and since libusb replaced the usb kernel module in 2.6.18 i'm kinda up the creek Regards, Matthew Hickey Project Manager Microdea Inc. Hey, guys. The NXP (Philips) UCB1400 audio codec the gumstix uses will normally route the mic preamp to BOTH left and right ADC channels if the mic input is selected in software. This might explain why you are getting the same audio on both channels. I would guess that you can use the regular audio mixer application in linux to tell the codec to use line-in instead of mic-in. For more detail see section 9 of the datasheet at http://www.nxp.com/acrobat_download/datasheets/UCB1400-02.pdf=20 =20 Remember, if you select line-in you will probably get two channels, but the codec's analog microphone pre-amplification circuitry will be switched out of the signal path, so you will likely get EXTREMELY low level, possibly distorted sound (or quite likely nothing at all) from a microphone, unless you use an external preamp. This has nothing to do with gumstix, but would be the same for any PC sound card. =20 Good luck, Christopher Whitt Project Engineer =20 JASCO Research Limited Halifax NS Canada B3A 3J6 (902)405-3336 x1008 (902)405-3337 fax ________________________________ From: gumstix-users-bounces@... Subject: Re: [Gumstix-users] Audio Application =20 Justin, I have actually been testing stereo recording more in depth lately and I have noticed something similar to what you are describing. I have 3 different stereo splitters, but I only know the sepcs on one of them.=20 Two of the three get no data when either both left and right mics are plugged in, or when just the left or the right is plugged in. But with the third splitter I get two channels, both with the exact same data. I think it may be able to record in stereo but maybe the wiring of the splitter/mics is faulty. From what I gather it merges all data from the left channel with all data from the right channel resulting in two channels, each filled with both left AND right data.=20 Sorry if that is a little confusing. For example I said "testing one two three" into the left mic, and "testing 10 9 8" into the right mic. When I put the resulting file through audacity I found that there are two channels, but each contains "testing one two three testing 10 9 8".=20 Again this phenomena only happens with one of the three splitters I have, with the other two I get no data whatsoever. Maybe the port is not supplying enough power to power both mics? Maybe the wiring of my mics is bad? Maybe the wiring inside the splitter is bad? Maybe the gumstix audio in jack does something weird with the channels? Maybe it even has to do with the way brec records audio?=20 That configuration you have does look similar to what I have except I don't use the python package. Joey =20 |
