It worked after trying that -- when I first read the page, I figured that the "rm -rf toolchain_build_arm_nofpu" was only for cases where "BR2_INSTALL_LIBSTDCPP is not set" was returned.

even though you've got C++ configured it hasn't been built.

In the instructions, <http://docswiki.gumstix.com/Sample_code/Cpp/Hello_World >
there's a file you need to remove and then you need to redo the make
(from within the gumstix-buildroot) directory) to get the C++ portion
built.
