I’m sure that’s true but I sent a few emails to them in hope that they might be able to help somehow or refer me somewhere, or anything and I got nothing back.  I don’t even know where I stand in this situation that’s all.  If I was ‘privileged’ with a response from gumstix, supporting the hardware which I paid, in my opinion, alot money for (although that shouldn’t really matter) then we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

Hi Drew,

As an owner of an electronics company, I can sympathize with both sides of your current problem.  You feel that something you paid good money for is not delivering the value you had “hoped”.  Gumstix delivered what was promised in providing components for experimental use.  I don’t think any of us on this list expect the pieces and parts we receive to be intended for the “general public”.  But to say that Gumstix doesn’t give a damn, is a rather harsh statement.

I personally have found their business practices commendable and highly recommend them to associates.  They provide a unique product at an exceptional value but with a certain amount of “caveat emptor”.  I wouldn’t expect my daughter to use this system but I find Don, Steve, Dave (as a labor of love but should be compensated) and the others at gumstix do excellent work in solving the myriad problems that range from open cellphone to advanced robotic applications.

Thank you.

My Vote of Confidence,

Michael

Even if you’re running in 16bit mode or whatever, it will still display something on screen, but with inaccurate colours.  Check the ribbon cable, mine ripped on me.  Also don’t expect gumstix to give a dam either if this is the case.

Just read a few posts about directfb examples here that stated that you needed to change some config file in ~gumstix/gumstix-oe/com.gumstix.collection/conf/gumstix-custom-verdex.conf.  There is a difference maybe between the 16bit directfb and the 18bit directfb that is causing your consoleLCD16 to not except the video signal and act like it's not working?  I have yet to play around with the LCD stuff, so I couldn't reproduce it.
