are you mounting as root on the gum?
check the permissions on the device in /dev if not.

Subject: [Gumstix-users] MMC/SD read only?

I've been trying to mount a MMC card (no brand, 1GB) but so far I could get it to work only with vfat and, in this case, read only. Is it possible to mount it RW? I tried to explicitly change /etc/fstab and add "rw" as mode, but still got it "ro". Yes, I checked the switch and it's in RW. In fact, I can mount it just fine (RW) on my Linux desktop. I also tried formatting the card to EXT3 fs, mounted without any problems on Linux (which recognized the card as EXT3 as expected), but got an error on Gumstix: no such device. Any ideas of what could be wrong?
